After graduating from Edinburgh University, Gordon spent three years with a firm of Chartered Accountants where he gained experience in the audit and taxation departments.
Gordon then left to assist with running the financial affairs of an Employment Agency in Edinburgh and Glasgow, (with involvement in updating the accounting system and the administration of salaries). Gordon was subsequently recruited by an organisation which specialised in carrying out scientific research for major international companies. He worked for two years in the accounting department and supplied management information to the Financial Director.
In June 1982 Gordon commenced employment with Stuart & Stuart, originally to assist with the preparation of annual accounts for Trusts and private clients , and the final accounting in the administration of executries. He spent four months in 1986 with a small accountancy firm in Edinburgh where he handled the financial affairs of individual clients before returning to Stuart & Stuart where his duties were expanded to include the running of the Tax Department. He additionally worked in the Cash Room Department (where he assisted in the day-to-day running of the firm for about 20 years).
Gordon continues to look after the tax affairs of Trusts and individual clients and is involved in the preparation of accounts for guardianships and charities, together with executry administration, within the expanding Private Client Department.
Gordon has an interest in many sports (sadly all in a spectating capacity) and is a keen follower of Hibernian FC. He also travels regularly (often on international trains), and regularly attends classical music concerts.
