Powers of Attorney
Granting a Power of Attorney means giving written authority to someone you trust to look after your financial (and/or welfare) interests should you be unable or unwilling to do so yourself.
The time to do this is before you need it. Understandably, people sometimes think that they do not need a Power of Attorney and will wait until they do. It may then be too late. It is also sometimes thought that husbands/wives or family members will automatically be able to look after things but that is not the case. The only way to ensure that matters will be dealt with properly is to take the necessary action yourself.
We advise clients that a Power of Attorney is well worth considering regardless of age or marital status. The implications of not having a PoA can be severe - just consider how your affairs would be looked after if you became incapacitated even for a short period of time. Establishing a PoA can be a relatively inexpensive exercise.
Why not take advantage of our Legal Health Check which includes advice on how to establish a PoA should it be required.
