Peter joined Stuart & Stuart some 32 years ago. He is at the forefront of the firm’s determination to modernise its approach to clients and their ever changing needs.

One of his greatest strengths is his personal rapport with clients, and he is admired for his strong commitment to ensuring that their best interests always come first.

Areas of Specialism: Commercial and Residential Conveyancing, Leasing, Small Businesses, Inheritance Tax, Wills and Executries.

Chris has been an integral part of the firm for over 32 years and is particularly known for his extensive private client knowledge. Chris acts for individual and corporate clients and his expertise is often called upon for the more complex issues surrounding Commercial Conveyancing.

Gordon has a long standing association with Stuart & Stuart stretching further back than his 25 years service.  As a descendant of one of the original founding partners in 1804 Gordon is committed to ensuring that the firm maintains its reputation for maintaining the highest possible standards and traditions.

Gordon’s clients value the depth and breadth of his knowledge and he is widely acclaimed in Edinburgh as a specialist in his field of residential conveyancing.

John has been a partner since 1981. Working in the areas of wills, powers of attorney and adults with incapacity, he has a particular interest in assisting the elderly. He has a marked strength in legal drafting, where the object is to make potentially complex matters more readily understandable to non-lawyers.

Area of Specialism: Family Law

John joined his brother Duncan at Stuart & Stuart some 29 years ago. He is one of Edinburgh's best known family lawyers, renowned for his skill in handling high net worth cases.

As an accredited specialist in this complex area of the law, John has been described in Chambers UK Guide as "extremely pragmatic and down-to-earth." Above all, John strives to provide his clients with a friendly and supportive service during what is often a time of great stress.

Douglas joined Stuart & Stuart some 36 years ago and is highly regarded as a trusted professional in the local community of Bonnyrigg.  A very personable and client friendly solicitor who has a formidable reputation for attention to detail,  Douglas’s informal approach immediately puts his clients at ease.

Brother of John, Duncan joined the firm first, 32 years ago.  Duncan’s attention to detail allows him to anticipate and avoid potential problems which can often arise within his areas of practice.

Many of his clients are long standing, often returning to Duncan for ongoing advice on matters relating to their legal affairs.

With the firm for 18 years and a partner for 10 of those years Fergus is known for his robust but sensitive approach to the complex issues arising from separation and all other aspects of family law.  Fergus’s clients value him for his ability to deal with challenging issues in a measured and pragmatic way.  

Fergus has accumulated a lot of experience in dealing with guardianship applications to the court for clients who have relatives that are no longer capable of managing their own affairs.  He is also able to assist clients with landlord/tenant disputes, debt-related issues and those who get into difficulty with paying their mortgage.
